Expedition leader Atwood makes a deal with nearby cattle rustler Morgan to loot the Indian treasures instead and sell them. Hoppy is on to their plan and pretending to leave follows them. Not only is he outnumbered by Morgan's men, but California has himself about to be sacrificed in an Indian ritual. Review: Great setting, interesting plot Hoppy protects a young Indian boy who is being chased and unjustly accused of being the lookout for a band of rustlers since carved amulets are found after each rustling raid. As it happens, the young boy works for the archaeologist Dr. Sue Harmon (Betty Alexander). Doc Harmon and Hoppy are old friends and she persuades him and sidekicks California and Lucky to join in the archaeological dig. Unfortunately, a colleague of hers is no good and joins forces with the head of the rustling gang in a scheme to steal and then sell the Indian artifacts. The scenery in this movie is stunning and having an archaeology expedition as part of the story is refreshing – as is having a woman archaeologist. I was reminded again in seeing this movie how good Hoppy was in fist fights – they are so realistic (unlike fights in some B Westerns). They are joined by Tobeys reluctatant young son Bryce (Willett). Review: Actually a good movie... I stumbled upon the 1999 TV movie "Outlaw Justice" by random chance here in 2024. Actually, the copy of the movie that I got a hold of was titled "The Long Kill", so go figure. With this being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to sit down and watch it. Sure, I am not all that keen on Western movies, but I have to say that I figured with country legends Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson in the leading roles, I was sort of drawn in. Writer Gene Quintano actually put together a good and entertaining script for director Bill Corcoran to bring to the screen. Sure, one can argue that the script is rather generic for a Western movie, but it actually proved to be a rather enjoyable movie to sit through. I was genuinely entertained by the story here. While I am not particularly a fan of neither Willie Nelson or Kris Kristofferson, then I will say that they carried the movie quite nicely. And they were joined by the likes of Chad Willett, Waylon Jennings and Jonathan Banks on the screen. If you enjoy an archetypical Western, then "Outlaw Justice" is well-worth checking out. My rating of "Outlaw Justice" lands on a six out of ten stars. The first half of the film is the comedic, episodic story of "Sacramento" Thompson, who seems to be constantly getting into problems from which his grown children must save him, and who is a jack-of-all-trades including prizefighter and preacher! The first half of the film is leisurely paced and even features a gospel song. Hardin, who has always had a roguish charm, is perfect for this role and he's decked out in a gray-tinted beard, flashing his winning smile. Then, about halfway through the film, an event I won't mention triggers a kidnapping/revenge plot that continues through the rest of the movie. Without a star of Ty Hardin's talent and charm, I don't know if I would have finished watching this film, but he manages to make it all worthwhile. Borrowed Trouble - Teacher Lucy Abbot is against building the saloon right next to her schoolhouse. When she is kidnapped, Hoppy rescues her and forces the saloon keepers to relocate. When Miss Abott disappears, Hoppy gets a clue to her location and rescues her from Mawson's cabin. It looks like Mawson is the man he wants, but Hoppy finds an item that indicates otherwise. Review: An engaging and charming movie Miss Abbott (Anne ONeal) is a schoolteacher who is having a running battle with saloon owner Steve Mawson (John Parrish) over the proximity of his saloon to the schoolhouse. Hoppy goes to see the teacher after he catches her breaking the windows in Mawson's saloon by heaving apples through them. Abbott is the stereotypical curmudgeonly, yet curiously likable old spinsterish teacher. Sometimes the supporting actors get all the best lines. After Hoppy introduces himself as Hopalong Cassidy, she tells him "I can't do anything about that, why don't you change it." He informs her that Hopalong is a nickname and that his real name is Bill, so of course she calls him "William" throughout the movie. She also gets in another zinger later when – after she has hit a bad guy – Lucky tells her "You sure knocked him out," she says, "That's nothing, he was unconscious fifteen years ago when he was a student of mine". After the apple-throwing incident, the teacher is kidnapped. Both California and Hoppy briefly look after the school children. Hoppy's scenes with the children are delightful and a highlight of the film. The ending of the film had a nice little twist to it. I agree there's not a lot of action in this film but it is an engaging, funny and quite charming film. As one reviewer said – it's all a matter of taste.
